About Tetra

The manufacturer Tetra was registered in West Germany in 1951, the founder of the company was the natural scientist Ulrich Baensch. The first office of the company, called Tropenhaus, opened in Hannover, and a few years later a subsidiary company BioMin appeared, focused on laboratory research of products. A rebranding in 1962 led to a name change to Tetra Kraft Werke and a move to Melle.

The company produces everything needed to care for an aquarium.

At the time of reorganization, the company owned 15 patents for technological processes for the production of fish feed and about 20 trademarks. In the early 60s. The company begins to publish a magazine for aquarium fish lovers. The introduction of new production methods made it possible to expand capacity and increase the number of employees to 420 people. On the wave of development, the owners sell the brand to the American company Warner-Lambert. Since 1974, Tetra products have been supplied worldwide.

In the early 80s. Garden ponds became popular, and the company began producing special food for the inhabitants of open-air ponds.

In the 90s Branches were opened in the United States to supply American consumers.

A logistics center responsible for the supply of products is set up in Melle, and a separate Tetra aquarium is opened at the Osnabrück Zoo. Since the beginning of the 2000s. The brand is transferred to the American group Spectrum Brands; food for fish and reptiles, as well as equipment for aquariums and ponds, are produced under the Tetra brand.

crystal water

Tetra, please tell me! I bought a used 180 liter aquarium with fish and plants. Approximately 50-60 liters of old aquarium water were used to start, the water has been very cloudy for the 3rd day! Recommended at the pet store: crystal water! Tell me, does it make sense to use it or do you just need to wait until the biobalance is established on its own?

Turbidity (whiteness) of water is often caused by bacteria that multiply en masse under favorable conditions - this is called a bacterial explosion. Such cloudiness occurs due to a disturbance in the biobalance after massive water changes or the use of drugs that inhibit biofiltration. In this case, there is no point in using any drugs, but you just need to wait until the bacteria eat up all the goodies from the water, after which they will glue the fins together from hunger and the water itself will become clean. You can wait up to two weeks, but usually the water becomes clear much faster if you do not “feed” the bacteria to the bears with a portion of tap water.

What is an aquarium siphon

A siphon for cleaning soil in aquariums consists of an elastic tube placed on a plastic tip with an increased diameter.
The opposite end is lowered into a container to collect water. A fine mesh is installed at the entrance to the tip to prevent the entry of stones, algae or fry. The elements are connected through rubber rings or couplings; inside there is a valve and a pressure regulator. Water drains from the aquarium due to the effect of communicating vessels, simultaneously drawing in debris from the bottom layer of soil. The mechanism of the device is not complicated; when using it, you must follow the instructions.

crystal water

crystal water is it possible to add this product directly to a cloudy aquarium along with the fish or is it better to transplant them?

I’m also confused, reason unknown, change once every five days for 20-25% Udo, CO2 - mash. There are many plants. Cleaning glass with every change. photo two weeks ago and today. what to do? Should I add this product? True, I have a negative attitude towards any such chemistry, but here I am ready to add, because... I can’t understand why the cloudiness appeared. The external filter “blows” with a bang, i.e. not clogged. Any suggestions? It's been cloudy for 4 days now.

Dimensions of Tetra siphons

The manufacturer supplies siphons in 3 modifications, differing in nozzle dimensions, hose diameter and performance. Siphons are selected depending on the capacity of the home or office aquarium. The product has a warranty period of 24 months from the date of sale; obligations do not apply to items damaged due to careless use. The device allows you to collect sediment from the ground, but to clean the internal glass surfaces of aquariums you will need special scrapers manufactured by Tetra.

Big

The GC-50 product is designed for tanks with a capacity of up to 400 l. The kit includes a suction tube consisting of 2 sections, allowing you to service tanks of various depths. There is a pressure regulator, the set includes a flexible hose 1800 mm long and 2 plastic clips for attaching the hose.

The equipment is distinguished by a valve with increased power, which speeds up the process of pumping water, and an ergonomic handle increases the safety of operating the siphon.

Average

The GC-40 modification is designed for tanks with a capacity of up to 200 liters; the kit includes a 1.5-meter elastic hose with a diameter of 12 to 16 mm (depending on the batch). The tube has a length of 370 mm, the diameter of the intake channel is 45 mm. The siphon is equipped with a valve for adjusting the liquid pressure; on the head of the nozzle there is a rotary coupling that prevents the hose from twisting. A similar element is provided on the GC-50, but on the small model GC-30 the tube is rigidly attached.

Small

The GC-30 model is aimed at customers with aquariums with a capacity of up to 60 liters. The device is characterized by the absence of a water pressure regulator; the set includes a 1.5-meter hose and brackets. The intake tube has a tip that allows you to remove dirt from corners or from under decorative elements located at the bottom of an artificial reservoir. Some users note the formation of a suspended soil in the water, which settles within 2-3 hours. As the tank's capacity drops, the volume of water needed to flush the bottom increases.

Tetra CrystalWater is a coagulant . Coagulants are substances that cause coagulation, thickening, and sticking together of particles and impurities in a liquid. Simply put, when you introduce the same Tetra CrystalWater into an aquarium, fine suspended particles stick together and form a larger fraction, which is sucked in and remains in the filter or settles at the bottom of the aquarium. If anyone is interested in a more detailed study of this issue, google “coagulants.”

Few people know that CrystalWater is effective not only against mechanical turbidity, but also biological. That is, it is able to remove whitish cloudiness in the water that forms after starting the aquarium. And we said this not for the sake of a nice word in favor of Tetra. And so that beginners understand that coagulants create only a visual effect. But they do not fight the causes of clouding. When starting the aquarium, it is understandable that the aquarium became cloudy. But if this happened in an existing aquarium, look for the problem. Perhaps the filtration is not working well, maybe you turn off the compressor at night, there are a lot of fish in the aquarium, some of the fish lay down on the bottom and stink... there are a lot of reasons. Search! As they say, whoever seeks will always find =)

The drug is not effective against “water blooms” - greening of water caused by euglena.

Tetra Crystal Water is not recommended by the manufacturer for use in aquariums with snails and shrimp, as it contains aluminum ions, which are not recommended for use in them. Although in practice, we personally did not have any problems with shrimp and crystal waterr.

You can always purchase this drug in the leading aquarium online store Akvionica . We recommend!

How to use the Tetra siphon

A brief algorithm for working with Tetra equipment designed for bottom cleaning:

  1. Unpack the product and assemble the siphon in accordance with the instructions included in the kit. When connecting the elements of the intake assembly, you should not use excessive force or drop the parts onto a hard surface, since the plastic cracks easily.
  2. Place the clamp on the edge of the bucket and secure the hose; install the water collection tank below the bottom of the aquarium.
  3. Lower the working part into the water and make several up and down movements with an amplitude of 50-70 mm, pumping liquid into the cavity and hose. If the task is completed correctly, water will flow into the bucket; some models are equipped with a regulator for the intensity of liquid drainage.
  4. Treat the bottom soil with the tip, removing silt and fish waste products along with part of the water. Stones that fall into the tube will not pass through the mesh; after cleaning, the soil must be leveled. To improve visibility, you can use an external light source or the LED Pro Line aquarium light from Tetra.
  5. While pumping, take a break and restore the liquid level in the tank; to prepare tap water, you can use Tetra Aqua Safe conditioner, which neutralizes harmful impurities and protects fish from a number of diseases. To fully wash the bottom, you will need to fill in at least 50-70 liters of fresh water; using waste liquid is strictly prohibited.
  6. Disassemble, then rinse the siphon with clean water and dry. Place the parts in a box, which should be stored in a dry place out of direct sunlight.
