Seachem Purigen media is a premium synthetic adsorbent that is unlike any other filtration product. It is not a mixture of ion exchange resins or adsorbents, but a unique macroporous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble contaminants from water at a rate and power that exceeds all other competing products by more than 500%. Purigen controls ammonia, nitrites and nitrates by removing nitrogenous organic wastes that would otherwise release these harmful compounds. The effect of purigen on microelements is minimal. It significantly increases redox processes. Purigen purifies water to unparalleled purity. It gradually darkens as it is depleted and is easily renewed when treated with bleach. Application: Rinse before use. Use in a fine mesh (180 micron or less) filter bag. For best results, Purigen should be placed in a manner that maximizes water flow through it. Exhaustion is expressed by a pronounced change in the color of the balls to dark brown or black.

Regeneration: Soak the granules for 24 hours in a water solution of household bleach (no dyes or fragrances). The ratio of water and bleach is 1:1. Use a plastic container for this, which should be placed in a well-ventilated place out of the reach of children. After soaking in bleach, rinse the granules thoroughly, then soak them for 8 hours in a specially prepared dechlorinator solution. When in doubt, soak the granules in a little water and test for residual chlorine using a special chlorine test. Storage: Purigen should be stored in a small amount of water to keep the medium moist. This will prevent the beads from drying out, which can cause them to shrink and crack, reducing the effectiveness of Purigen. You can use reverse osmosis filter water or tap water. Small amounts of chlorine in tap water will not affect Purigen and may prevent the buildup of unwanted bacteria.
