The total area of the indoor Center is 53,000 square meters. m.

The 80 Moskvarium aquariums in Moscow contain more than 12,000 marine and freshwater inhabitants. Here you can watch unique large marine animals - killer whales, beluga whales and dolphins. At the same time, this is a rare opportunity to touch sea inhabitants: stingrays, horseshoe crabs and other amazing creatures.

The Moskvarium Center for Oceanography and Marine Biology includes three large areas: an aquarium, a water stage, and a center for swimming with dolphins.

The center hosts lectures, you can sign up for group excursions, and organize a children's party. There are several restaurants and cafes on the territory of the complex.

Negative aspects of exhibitions

Participation in exhibitions, especially if they are held far from home, implies the inevitable influence on fish of numerous factors that can harm their health and even endanger their lives. Indeed, many fish die right at the exhibitions or immediately after them. These factors are:

  • Stress due to transportation from home to the exhibition and from the exhibition to home.
  • Stress due to lack of hiding places in an undecorated exhibition aquarium.
  • Stress due to lack of space in many display aquariums, especially when displaying large fish.
  • Stress due to a continuous line of people walking past aquariums, looking, pointing, taking pictures of fish and banging on the glass.
  • Shock and stress due to fluctuations in water chemistry (see Chapter 10):
  • a sharp transition from the water of a home aquarium to the water of an exhibition aquarium, and then back.
  • Possibility of heavy metal poisoning if water is poured from a hot water tap to fill an exhibition aquarium (this is done because the water in the exhibition aquarium is not heated).
  • Possibility of chlorine or chloramine poisoning if the wrong water dechlorinator is used or not used at all.
  • Possibility of nitrate shock if tap water at the exhibition venue has a high nitrate content.
  • The possibility of gas embolism affecting fish, manifested in the formation of gas bubbles, if the aquarium is first filled with cold water and then heated in the aquarium.
  • Cooling caused by lack of heating water.
  • High likelihood of ammonia poisoning due to lack of filtration.
  • Possibility of suffocation if aeration is insufficient or absent.
  • Possibility of stress after returning to the home aquarium - during this time the fish could lose its place in the “aquarium hierarchy”. In the daily life of many fish participating in exhibitions, there are a number of negative factors. Often these fish lead a completely unnatural lifestyle, causing constant stress, as they are kept alone in completely empty aquariums to prevent the possibility of damage to their covers and fins. Many of them are overfed in an attempt to achieve an increase in size, for which additional points are awarded. Many of the fish we see at shows are obese, which poses a serious risk to their long-term health.

Further details related to stress, shock and other problems listed above can be found in Chapter 21.

New aquarium products 2018-2019 at the exhibition (Aquael, Sera, Tetra). Part 1.

Recently, the ParkZoo 2021 exhibition was held in Moscow, which I was lucky enough to attend. I would like to share about some products and new products in the aquarium industry that were presented at this event.

New products from Aquael

The first company that caught my eye was the well-known Aquael. To be honest, I was very surprised by the new products they showed. They will go on sale next year.

Aquael Glossy with triplex glass (regular glass, invisible film, ultra-transparent glass) was presented at the stand

Now the Aquael company has gotten to the point of creating its own smart mobile application.

smart LED light is installed on top , controlled using an application on a tablet or mobile phone. You can adjust the illumination, beam spectrum and many other functions.

✔Inside the aquarium there is the latest plastic heater Aquael Ultra Heater. Among the innovations, it has such functions as: accuracy (+/- 0.250C), ease of use (it shows with light indicators what stage of heating it is at). In general, the thing is cool and useful.

✔Among the new products is another heater called Platinum. It is made in a glass case, also with light indicators and a convenient temperature control.

✔For large cans, a new 500 W Comfort Zone Gold heater has been introduced!

✔Perhaps the most important new product was the Aquael Ultramax external filter with a prefilter to reduce cleaning of the main fillers, quick start-up and convenient hose locks for its maintenance. It will replace the well-known UniMax . These filters will be produced in 1500 and 2000 l/h versions. It is not yet known whether they will release models that can be configured using a tablet.

✔MINIKANI, MIDIKANI is being replaced by the MAXICANI filter with an updated UNIPUMP pump . There will be 4 filter options available for purchase.

✔And lastly, this is a miniature Aquael MINI BOOST compressor, with quiet operation, high performance, and smooth power adjustment.

New products from Sera

I was pleased with the large department with Sera products. There are also many new aquarium products here.

✔Firstly, this is the new external filter Sera UVC-Xtreme , which has expanded the line. This is truly a worthy competitor to other manufacturers.

What's new:

  • Electronic performance regulator that allows you to adjust the desired water flow.
  • The updated UV lamp more effectively destroys harmful microorganisms and algae.
  • The filter is a little quieter than others.
  • Safety! Power supply is 24 V, not 220, as in others.

It will be possible to buy in 2 variations: 840 and 1220 l/h. Below in the photo is the old fil bioactive filter, which will continue to be sold.

✔We used a very good idea with fillers. Now, to add filler to the filter or fill the mini filter with filler, you don’t have to buy a whole large box. Packages of fillers of 35 g and 60 g are on sale .

✔Herbal preparations to combat various fish diseases, called Phyto med. An interesting and unique line of medicines with the addition of various herbs, such as thyme. One bottle holds approximately 1 ton of water.

✔Nature line of natural food - for connoisseurs of everything natural. This food comes without added dyes or preservatives. Even the packaging sticker is made of paper.

✔All companies are gradually switching to LED lamps, which are an excellent alternative to fluorescent lamps. We previously wrote about how easy it is to change a fluorescent lamp to an LED lamp in an Aquael aquarium.

Sera presents similar LED X-Change Tube of different lengths and spectrum, which are suitable for any lamps, but unlike other companies, they have various components, such as: a splitter for several lamps, power supplies, a T5/T8 adapter, a block light control, “moonlight”.

Recently I had the task of finding a replacement for a Juwel fluorescent lamp, 1047 cm long, with an LED Led one. It turned out that Sera has such a lamp, along with a T5 adapter.

Another interesting device was the algovec+UV sterilizer, which is placed inside the aquarium and works as a separate device.

Precision aquarium complex with LED lighting, which has a built-in filter with fillers and a heater.

New Tetra

The well-known manufacturer also exhibited some of its new products.

✔The new BalanceBalls ProLine filler is truly a unique filler. It works like ceramic or plastic fillers that harbor nitrifying bacteria. But Tetra bioballs provide food for those very beneficial microorganisms, feeding them and dissolving over time in the filter.

✔Miniature internal Tetra Jet filter with open sponge, for a small aquarium with fish or shrimp.

Round Tetra aquariums with original lamps and filters.

The official ticket offices are located in the Moskvarium building itself and in a separate pavilion on the Main Alley, not far from the entrance arch to the VDNKh territory. In addition, there are ticket terminals in the building's lobby.

Please note: on weekends and holidays there can be long queues at the ticket office in the main building, so it is more convenient to buy a ticket online on the official website. With printed tickets you can go straight to the turnstile.

Oceanariums of Russia and the world

Many famous oceanariums and aquariums around the world host performances of marine animals, as well as scientific research. Today, the largest aquariums are located in the coastal regions of the USA, Japan, South Africa, France and the UK. In Russia, similar institutions began to open on the basis of the Fisheries Research Institute back in the early 90s (in Vladivostok and Murmansk). The largest aquarium in Russia, the Sochi Discovery World Aquarium, opened in Sochi in 2009. On an area of 6000 sq. m. there are 30 aquariums with a total volume of 5 million liters of water. Official website of the Sochi Aquarium - https://sochiaquarium.ru

There is an oceanarium in St. Petersburg, which is part of the Planet Neptune shopping and entertainment complex. Its volume is 1.5 million liters of water, the number of inhabitants is 4.5 thousand. “Planet” is larger than the “RIO” oceanarium. The St. Petersburg aquarium has been operating since 2006. The official website of the oceanarium in St. Petersburg is https://www.planeta-neptun.ru/ocean *** The largest oceanarium in the world is located in the USA, in the city of Atlanta. It opened in November 2005. Its aquarium contains 32 million liters of water, and there are more than 120 thousand animals in the aquarium. The official website of the largest aquarium is https://www.georgiaaquarium.org By the way, there are very few profitable aquariums in the world. Almost all of them are either funded by municipalities, as in Lisbon (Portugal), or by private sponsors. Experts have calculated that the $290 million invested in the construction of the Georgia Aquarium will pay off only seventeen years from the date of opening. Positive aspects of exhibitions

Exhibitions provide an opportunity for aquarists to meet and communicate with each other. Thanks to this, they exchange ideas, information, give each other advice, and all this has a beneficial effect on keeping fish. Large exhibitions give aquarists the opportunity to see rare fish that rarely appear in stores. In addition, you can contact specialists with any questions.

The upcoming participation in the exhibition encourages the aquarist to take good care of the fish - after all, they should only be exhibited if they are in excellent condition. The fish breeding categories are a great opportunity to test whether an aquarist is capable of breeding fish. After all, in order to participate in these categories, he must independently breed a group of young fish, and all of them must be of the same high quality and match each other in size, color and condition of the fins. Such shows encourage fans not only to keep fish, but also to breed them themselves; in this case, the fish will lead a more natural lifestyle. In addition, as mentioned earlier, captive breeding of fish of a species that cannot be reared industrially helps reduce pressure on the wild population of these fish. At the same time, we note that thanks to the efforts of amateur aquarists, it was possible for the first time to achieve the reproduction and growth of many species of fish in captivity.
